The Musings of a High School English teacher in Baltimore City

I read this book last year. It was extremely interesting, and it's good for questions and conversation. The what would you do? The is he a good guy or a bad guy? The do you live inside of the box created for you- without even know it in some cases? I'd almost forgotten that before my friend bought it for me, I read the reviews on amazon and B&N. Many native Indians, didnt seem to enjoy the book at all, many felt it cast a dark shadow on the people, far fewer felt as the non-native Indians that it was a fantastic book. That was then though, maybe it's a different feeling now.
Im jealous of your students, I didnt have the opportunity to read books like these when I was in high school. The deepest we ever got was Beloved by Toni Morrison, and the teacher did not teach it - she just asked us to read it and do a report. Your kids are a lucky bunch!
Do you google "The White Tiger Book Club"? Sometimes that can give a good list of discussion questions. Here's one: http://www.bookbrowse.com/reading_guides/detail/index.cfm?book_number=2119
I am an Indian and I think the book is too contrived. It exaggerates Indian poverty in order to shock its readers. For example, I am yet to see a rickshaw puller who is so callous that he has not named his son! You will find more such examples in my review at http://www.book-review-circle.com/the-white-tiger-aravind-adiga.html
I think both Slumdog Millionaire and The White Tiger maade money off Indian poverty!
Have you looked into the movie "John&Jane" for comparison?
