On Monday, I begin teaching Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi's graphic novel, to 9th graders. I have never taught a graphic novel, and I am not ready. I wish there was more stuff online about teaching it.
Writing my unit plan tonight...

The movie was great
I taught Persepolis two semesters at Towson University. The kids loved it and were blown away by it.
They had a lot of questions about the history of Iran, our involvement with Iran, and the role religion plays as a political entity.
Great book. I'm always happy to hear that people are teaching it.
I've taught numerous graphic novels, and they aren't that different from teaching traditional prose books unless you want to really focus on art, art styles, why things are drawn the way they are, panelling, etc.
I'm guessing you know this, but Random House has discussion questions online ... they might be helpful.
I was thinking about showing the movie to my kids (9th grade) when we cover the Middle East. Do you think it is appropriate for that age group?
