Baseball and politics

1. As a longtime hater of Barry Bonds, I have to say that the hatred against him right now is overdone. Yes, he almost certainly took performance-enhancing drugs, as did several other star players (and pitchers, significantly). But he was also a great player before and after it. He doesn't deserve to shoulder the hate of the world right now.

2. That being said, one of the things that gives me pleasant thoughts during this time is that at least I know that Alex Rodriguez will break the record in another six years or so. Wouldn't it be great if he took his option to leave the Yankees - those fans just don't deserve him - and signed with the Tigers?

3. Speaking of which, the Yankees are scaring the crap out of me right now. Why can't they just go away for a year? Same for the Twins.

4. The Tigers' lackluster play over the last two weeks is scaring the crap out of me and breaking my heart a little.

5. I hate to say this, but Hillary Rodham Clinton is impressing the crap out of me lately. I'm still all for Barack, but HRC is running a very effective campaign right now, and saying all the right things as far as I'm concerned.

6. It is pretty evident that Keiffer Mitchell's as slippery as a snake (there has been other stuff as well, like some shady real estate dealings someone cornered him about on The Ed Norris Show). I don't think he's as slippery as Sheila Dixon, but still pretty slippery. I really hope that Jill Carter gains some traction in the mayor race. That woman kicks ass and takes names. I will not vote for her if it's like a Nadar vote in 2000, but, if she has a chance, I'm first in line. (But look at that sad little video on her website. How many people are there? 12?)

Sorry we couldn't get together on your trip here, maybe next year.

I went to the Tigers game Friday night. I don't know what the deal was, but the Tigers looked like they were playing in slow motion. Hopefully they will turn it around soon. Bummer they lost, but it was still a nice summer night to be outside. Worse than the loss was that the park raised the price of beer fifty cents this year. Though, I guess it didn't stop me from buying two.

Talk to you soon.

Epiphany,
I would not give up hope on Delegate Jill Carter for Mayor. First of all, she is a democrat. Nader was a independent. Trust me, it makes a difference. No candidate for mayor had a huge number of supporters at his or her announcement. Jill's video looks a lot more energized than some of the other candidates'. Dixon announced at a school surrounded by a bunch of planted school children. Mitchell's announcement didn't generate many people from the photo's in in the Sun. Of course, both Dixon and Mitchell's announcements were featured in the Sun. So was Andrey Bundley's for that matter. Makes me curious how a state delegate's announcement for mayor was never featured in the Sun. At any rate, Delegate Carter has a very large following in he district. If she campaigns across the city, and I assume she will, she'll likely pick up a majority of voters because she's simply a better candidate than any of the others.

I'm not sure why, but I think a lot of people (including me) have that same feeling of reluctance toward Hillary. Yet, when I think about whether she would actually be a good president, I think she truly would be absolutely tops. She's smart and hard-working. Yet, I search for all kinds of reasons not to like her.

I hate to say it, but I'm starting to feel it's a gender thing. I think a man with her priorities, intelligence, and boldness would be walking away with the election. (And I'm even feeling this ambivalence as a left-leaning female!) Thoughts?

I think Hillary is changing. She's becoming a better politician. My reluctance with her has been a feeling that he was a thermometer and not a thermostat - a temperature tester and not a temperature changer. She just doesn't come across as genuine like some others do. Yet, she is doing it moreso now. She's definitely smart and hard-working, though, and would make an excellent president. Better than Obama? Not so much.
