The Tonight Show

One cool thing about summer vacation is that I get to stay up late and watch stuff like this - Ann Coulter and George Carlin together on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

As most liberals do, I hate Ann Coulter, a mean, crazy woman who looks like a horse. And I've always thought George Carlin was a bit overrated, despite his cool appearance in Dogma. But together? I bet it will be some good TV. TV good enough to watch Leno over Letterman, at least for that segment. And KC Tunstull on as the music? That's pretty freaking cool.

The Tigers broke my heart again tonight, losing in 13 innings, while I peddled away for 60 minutes on my eliptical machine. I just moved it in front of the computer (where I watch baseball) instead of the TV (where I watch almost nothing), and the results so far have been much more working out at home - in fact, 100% of the nights since I moved it. However, it's only happened one night out of one, so small sample size caveats apply.

a.) Ann Coulter is no meaner or crazier than Ward Churchill or Julianne Malveaux or Dr. Leonard Jeffries, but for some reason people freak out over her.

b.) That Tonight Show "confrontation" was a dud. I'm not quite sure what people were expecting Carlin to do though (saw it on You Tube... I don't stay up for junk like that).

c.) The funniest stand-up comedy show I ever saw was Carlin at Carnegie, which was an HBO special from like 1983.

d.) The unfunniest stand-up comedy show I ever saw was whatever George Carlin's last HBO special was. God that sucked.

a) I've never heard of any of those people, so I think one reason people freak out over her that Coulter is just more exposed than those folks.

b) Definitely agree. Very anti-climactic. I definitely bought into the pre-hype for it.

c&d) I've chuckled a few times at him, but that's it. He's certainly no Mitch Hedberg or Margaret Cho.

Ward Churchill is a college professor who said the finance guys who died in the WTC during 9/11 were "little Eichmanns" who deserved their fate. If you haven't heard of at least him I'd have to think you're actively trying to not pay attention to the bad guys on the left.

Anyway, what's more dangerous, an author who spouts her crazy meanness out loud or a college professor who does it quietly in his classroom?

People defend Churchill and his "academic freedom," but I believe they're generally the same people who'd do anything to denigrate Ann Coulter and call her things like crazy and mean and say that she looks like a horse. Those people usually call themselves "progressive."

(PS: it's not that I disagree with any of that about Coulter. I'm just saying... but I'd still do her.)

The story rings a bell now, I just didn't know his name.

I know there are crazies on the left as well, but you don't see them on all of our "liberal media" outlets like The Today Show or The Tonight Show. Ward Churchill doesn't have a book screaming "Liberals Are Godless" at the entryway of every Barnes & Noble I walk into.

Is anyone trying to silence Coulter? I hadn't heard that at all. I don't think there's anything wrong with calling her names (obviously), just like I wouldn't mind folks doing it to Churchill. The thing is, Churchill doesn't have his book signings sponsored by Shawn Hannity (or the left's equivalent) and isn't given the platform that Coulter is given. I usually ignore her, but couldn't resist the pairing of her with Carln, even though it obviously was resistable. Coulter is *way* more exposed and reaches way more people than Churchill.

However, I don't particularly think either one is dangerous. If anything, I think Coulter helps the left, and the likes of Hannity associating with her just makes this more powerful.

You don't like Sarah Jessica Parker's appearance but like Ann Coulter's? I think they look a little alike, but Coulter is like the uglier cousin.
