For the second Sunday in a row, Sunday Brunch was crazy busy. I'm not one to get rattled too easily, but today, when we had a picky wedding party of 25, I could feel possible rattle brimming underneath as guests were shouting at me to get their food so they could make their flight, and everyone's food but these people's had been brought up. All ended okay, though, and, once again, I made a lot of money. Before tipout, my three shifts this week included $188 on Tuesday, $209 on Saturday, and $119 today. I've had some unexpected bills pop up lately, and this is coming at just the right time.
One reason I've been able to keep this job so long is my patience, knowing that good times do come, particularly in the winter season. They're coming right now. Of course, I'm a bit tired of being there right now, but the money helps cure that.
I have an option to buy a "gently used" I-Pod from a friend for $200. It's a year old, still has a year of warranty, and he has the original box and accessories. He's just selling to upgrade to a video I-Pod. I've been wanting one for a while and now am addicted to I-Tunes. The thought of having something to listen to while I work out that fit in a pocket or on an arm-band, and doesn't skip, may be too tempting. If I can justify it in my head that's it something that will improve my health and fitness, then I think I'll do it. At $200, it's still three times as much as a decent CD walkman, but I've never found a CD walkman that doesn't skip - even ones that claim they don't skip. I've been looking longingly at people's I-Pods at the gym for a while now, and actually have some savings right now to buy it. But I'm loathe to just blow this wad right now.
Tonight's the going away party for Shawn, a guy who I've worked alongside the last two years at the restaurant. The Polish girl and I are going to Thirsty Dog beforehand with Holden, then making sure Shawn gets to the designated point for his surprise going away party. Shawn's a good guy, and I'm kicking myself for not getting him a gift of some sort. He's not leaving until Tuesday, so there's still time. Either way, it's the end of free gourmet dinners for me while I work, unless I can convince the new cook to start preparing them for me.

Buying my iPod was one of the best things I ever did. It makes going to the gym 100 times easier--it won't skip, you'll have thousands of choices without having to lug around any CDs, and it's way easier to handle than a Discman. I think you'd be glad you took the opportunity. (Just make sure a similar, new version isn't way cheaper before you buy someone else's, now that I think about it.)
(coming out of lurking for a minute)
I'd recommend looking around a bit before you spent $200. I haven't looked, but you can likely do quite a bit better than that (even for the 40GB, which I'm hoping is what your friend is offering since it's $200). Check out craigslist or ebay to start. Lots of people with excessive disposable incomes looking to "upgrade". You may as well take advantage of that.
Otherwise, I think it'd be perfectly legit to talk your friend down to $150 at least. $200 is too high. Just my opinion.

Oh!
But certainly don't take my, "that's too expensive, blah blah blah..." to mean that you shouldn't get an ipod at ALL!
(I just wanted to clarify -- I LOVE my ipod) :)
