Super Lesbian just called and told me that her offer for the house has been accepted. Not only can we stay, we might actually get three-pronged outlets and new windows before the holidays. Super Lesbian will be our new landlord. She's genuinely a good person and I couldn't be happier.
Sigh of relief.
I'm going to keep looking at HUD homes but now I'm not in a huge rush to do it.

Congrats! It worked out after all.
Now you have time to pursue one of those teacher deals.
Hurah! Hurah!
Glad to hear that a potential scramble has been averted. Nonetheless, it might be time to begin the housing search.
Of course, I am one to talk.
jason,
yes, i know.
i've got to make sure this doesn't lead to complacency...
thanks for the huzzahs, snay and harish.
snay, i've got this very strange issue with your comments. for some reason, i get no e-mail that you've made one. i thought at first it was just a fluke, but you're absolutely the only one. so if it ever felt like i've ignored a comment of yours (not that i'm generally very good at responding to begin with), it might have been because I missed it.
ok, this is *not* in any way, shape or form an "I told you so" (really!)
But I'm glad the universe made good on how it usually provides.
Yay for Fool and Epiph!
Glad to hear there's no rush. I still hope that you'll buy your own house though. As you've just learned, even a nice landlady is still a landlady. Even when things are friendly, their interests aren't yours. I say this with the experience of having rented froma friend. It's not always a comfortable situation.
